Today, I would like to Introduce Kayankwok, a Hong-Kong based artist, illustrator, and graphic designer.
What is your name and what do you do?
My name is Kayankwok, and I’m an artist and art director, I simply just create stuff.
How long have you been doing it?
As a career, I’ve been doing it for over 10 years now.
What made you to do it?
I don’t know, destiny maybe. I started drawing since I was a kid, and it just never stopped, as you grow, you learn other skills, and you execute your idea rather than just by drawing. Sometimes you just can’t explain why, but you just do.
Where are you from and where do you live now?
I’m from Hong Kong, and live between UK, Canada, China and Hong Kong.
How do you work? Do you have any software or medium you always work with?
As I’m an artist and an art director, when I’m an artist I work with any media that interests me ,but mostly I work with oil paint, water colour and surely with photoshop, illustrator when Im working on my collage. As an Art director, well honestly, I work with people and humanity ( to all the people who can relate hahaha :D)
Do you have anyone or anything(books, movies, etc.) you respect or strongly get inspired?
Oh, I love Joel-Peter Witkin（ JPW ), he is my favourites artist of all time. His photography is just so beautiful, I think I did get inspired by not knowing it. Once I mention I love this artist, people would say oh I see why you make collage. I wish I could collage with dead body as well and photography it.
How do you get inspirations or come up with new ideas?
As an artist I’m frequently asked “ How do you get inspirations or come up with new ideas?” But I just don’t know how to answer, like inspiration and idea don’t come visit me like they have a schedule, they come as their will. But there is one thing that does help with ideas, simply just explore new stuff, anything that is new to you, it’s a good start of inspiration.
Where do you usually work at? Do you have a favorite place? (home, cafe, studio, parks, etc.)
I mostly work at my studio, my favourite place would be my home, you know as you grow older, you treasure the times with your parents, your family. The time you have with them is reducing and it will never and is impossible to be increased, so treasure it as long as you can :D.
